Hi, Iām ryan
Originally from Beaumont, Texas, I earned my degrees from Lamar University, The University of Texas at Arlington, Texas State University, and Our Lady of the Lake University. My doctoral research centers on individuals transitioning from complex systems, particularly healthcare systems, while examining health disparities, the well being of low income families, emergency mental health, and strategies to enhance the effectiveness of case management services.
I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Board-Approved Supervisor, providing clinical supervision to social workers pursuing licensure. My clinical experience spans a wide range of settings, working with individuals across the lifespan from children to older adults. I have extensive experience supporting veterans, particularly those impacted by trauma, as well as individuals navigating substance use disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings. My background also includes crisis intervention, group facilitation, hospice care, grief and bereavement counseling, and medical social work, where I developed strong expertise in care coordination and resource navigation.
My approach to therapy is holistic and client centered, emphasizing the importance of understanding the whole person. I am trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and Gottman Method Couples Therapy (Levels I & II), which I integrate into my work.
In addition to my clinical practice, I serve as a Social Work Supervisor at the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, where I lead teams, support program implementation, and provide clinical oversight. I am also an Adjunct Instructor of Social Work at Texas Southern University.
I currently serve on the national committee for Veterans and Military Families with the National Association of Social Workers. I have previously been appointed to several state-level leadership roles, including service on the Texas Juvenile Justice Advisory Board and the Texas State Board of Social Worker Examiners by Governor Greg Abbott, as well as the Texas Health and Human Services Policy Council on Children and Families by Executive Commissioner Cecile Young. These appointments reflect my commitment to advancing policy, ethics, and the profession of social work at a systems level. I have also served in leadership roles within the NASW Texas Chapter and as a Board Member for CASA of Southeast Texas.
Outside of my professional work, I enjoy spending time with my family and traveling.
